Release Day: Sea of Secrets

I have some pretty damn exciting news to share with you all- A LOT has been going on. I’ve essentially had my peddle to the metal constantly, lately; and sleep, what’s that!? Who even knows… I’ve had some exciting acceptances, and one of the anthologies I feature in, “Sea of Secrets” just had it’s big release day! Read on!

So, as always, we’ll start at the beginning, shall we?

It was the official Release of Dragon Soul Press‘ aquatic adventure fantasy anthology “Sea of Secrets” on the 31st of May! (Which was last night, pushing through into the very early hours of the morning for my side of the planet!) Each contributing author was allocated a half hour slot to host, mine being at 12.30pm in the U.S.A. and it went great (again, which was was after midnight for me)!

I’d love to share my event posts with those of you who weren’t able to join us for our virtual party! You might find them interesting and hopefully entertaining…

Hi everyone! My name is Zoey Xolton, and I’m an Author of Dark Fantasy, Paranormal Romance, Horror and Sci-Fi. I hail all the way from the proverbial ‘Land Down Under’ a.k.a Australia. My novelette length story “The Sea Witch’s Apprentice” features in Dragon Soul Press’s “Sea of Secrets” anthology, which is why I’m here!
I’m a married mother of two darklings and literally live to write. I generally function on 0 – 4 hours of sleep a night, 8+ cups of black coffee a day, and a healthy dose of insanity…
Thanks for joining our party & I hope you enjoy my posts!

My story “The Sea Witch’s Apprentice” is a dark re-imagining of the original Hans Christian Andersen tale ‘The Little Mermaid‘. When the idea for my story was born, the question I asked myself was… “What if the little mermaid went dark?” What could cause such a turn of events, such a change of character? And so my story began to grow as I delved further into this conundrum.
You can read the blurb to my story, below:
“Morluna is the seventh daughter of the King and Queen of Atlantis, but wants more. Desperate to attain an immortal soul, and live forever, she ventures to the lair of the sea witch in search of aid. As fate would have it, the little mermaid gets far more than she bargained for.
Her life has been a lie, and the sea witch, Malanima, is the only one who can help her learn the truth. How did her mother really die? What is she? And where does her heart’s desire truly lie? Morluna ventures into the past to learn the truth for herself and what she discovers there, will alter the fate of Atlantis, and change the course of human history, forever…
What do Julius Caesar and the the little mermaid have in common? You’ll have to read to find out!”

Have you seen the original Japanese animation of The Little Mermaid, the one based most closely to Hans Christian Andersen’s tail? (Pun intended!) If you have, which little mermaid do you prefer, and why? Marina or Disney’s Ariel? And if you haven’t would you seek it out, now? I first saw the original when I was just 3 years old, and it’s stayed with me my whole life. It’s dark, it’s tragic and utterly beautiful. It’s definitely the version I prefer, and Marina is by far the less selfish, more empathetic, noble spirit! I’d love to hear your thoughts…

They say curiosity killed the cat(fish)… or some such thing! So tell me- What would you do if you could breathe underwater? Where would you go? Would you seek out sunken ships and long lost treasures? Would you adventure to deep sea trenches, or discover secret caves and grottos? Make it your mission to rescue souls lost at sea?
I’d personally swim the warm tropic oceans, basking on lush, volcanic beaches and exploring the last of the beautiful, colourful coral reefs before they’re lost to us for good!

If you’d like to discover the dark secrets of Atlantis for yourself, and find out just how on Earth the Roman Emperor, Julius Caesar fits into the equation… then you’ll have to pick up your own copy of Dragon Soul Press‘s “Sea of Secrets” anthology to read “The Sea Witch’s Apprentice“! I know I speak for us all, when I say we would appreciate your support!

And do you want to know the most exciting part of all of this? I woke up this morning to discover that “Sea of Secrets” had made it to #25 on the Best Sellers list in Australia… not only is that an incredible achievement for all of the ‘SoS Team’ as a whole- but that officially makes ME a Best Selling Australian Author!!! To say I’m over the moon would be an understatement!

An enormous thanks goes out to all those of you who Pre-Ordered, or went onto purchase a copy of our anthology during Release!  And for posterity… here’s the screenshots to prove we made it!

And you can’t be disappointed to be within whispering distance of the legendary Mercedes Lackey, right!? She’s one of my all-time-favourite authors! So that’s another achievement all of it’s own.

And the good news doesn’t end there! Check this out!

My short piece “I am Capricorn” was accepted into Aussie Speculative Fiction‘s Zodiac Anthology, which will be published by their own independent imprint, Deadset Press! And what’s more? They want me to submit such a piece for ALL 12 of the books in the series! They will feature as small introductory pieces to each volume, before the Table of Contents! Talk about an honour! And just like that- my works will feature in twelve anthologies! I can’t thank Alannah Andrews of ASF enough for seeing such potential in my writing and ideas!

I hope you enjoyed this blog!

Until next time…

May you feast upon the flesh of your enemies!
